Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church

To translate the words of faith into mercy. Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church practices what we preach by getting God's work beyond the walls of the church and into the community.

The Client

Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church is a historically black, ethnically diverse church that has served the city of Oakland, California for over nine decades. Throughout the course of these ninety years, Taylor UMC has been an integral part of the community, hosting speeches by Presidents John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon, partaking in projects that feed Oakland’s hungry, and playing a major role in enriching the community’s social fabric through its multiple outreach hubs and its tireless efforts to help those in need.

The Case

Taylor UMC’s main website was outdated, unengaging and completely static. It failed to truly reflect the magnanimity of the church’s activities, its impressive historic background, and its relevance to the city of Oakland and its residents. We flew to California to meet with the church administration and its congregants, which included a sit-down with its larger-than-life leader, Pastor Anthony Lawrence Jenkins, Sr. The aim was not only to merely re-build Taylor UMC’s site platform, but we wanted to attract a wider audience and keep them invested in and engaged with the church. To do that, Taylor UMC graciously allowed us be a part of their core structure and help them develop an online strategy that would help the church progress.

Result & Feedback

The results of our relationship with Taylor UMC are an example of how happy clients and dedicated agencies can build mutually beneficial business relationships that help propel both forward. We were fully involved in the process of increasing both the donations to and general income of the church in every aspect of this project. We built a relationship founded on trust with the church administration, an opportunity to showcase our business integrity that ultimately, led to powerful results. We chose a merlot-shaded palate for the new Taylor UMC website, reflecting quiet strength and solid religious tradition. We aimed to establish a community for the users of this site, where their experience felt more personalized and where they could schedule events seamlessly on the new events calendar. Everyone would be able to hear the Sunday Sermon because they would be livestreamed and accessed anywhere. Admins had complete control over approving events and prayers and they could reach out to us at anytime to help if needed. After Pastor Jenkins saw how much value and technology was incorporated into the site, he reached out to his network of pastors in other Methodist churches and invited them to implement our concept on their own websites. Now, our aim is to help 500 Methodist churches reach their congregations through the use of our system and achieve that goal by 2020.
